About this piece
One of a group of Māori musical instruments known as taonga pūoro, or singing treasures, the Kōauau is a cross-blown flute with a large musical range depending on whether it has been carved from bone, wood or stone.
Whāia e koe te iti kahurangi; ki te tāohu koe, me maunga teitei
Seek the treasure you value most dearly; if you bow your head, let it be to a lofty mountain
- Maori Proverb
